Welcome to Colour Box Studio.
Colour Box Studio is your community creative hub and multifunctional pop up art space in Footscray. The space changes month to month to showcase Melbourne’s creative community and represent a diverse range of artists, creative people and artforms.
We opened our doors on 7 Nov 2012 with a Pop Up Shop. Colour Box Studio will continue to grow from the ground up and evolve through community input.
POZIBLE CAMPAIGN – Thanks to community support we have just successfully reached over our crowdfunding target of $7000. This means that we can continue operating at our current capacity with free events, rotating programs and the lowest possible fees for artists and workshop facilitators (so they have a real chance at making some cashola). OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES – November 2012
Colour Box Studio is a multifunctional pop up art space in Melbourne's West.
Colour Box Studio aims:
- To provide a space for creative people and artists in the West of Melbourne to share art, craft and stories with the broader public;
- To provide opportunities for artists to exhibit and sell work through a gallery/ retail shop;
- To provide skills and training workshops for artists, run by professional artists;
- To provide networking and collaborative opportunites for artists through regular events and provision of a meeting space.
The space will potentially incorporate all or some of these things:
- retail shopfront/ gallery for artists to exhibit/ sell work;
- artist studio/s;
- workshop space/ meeting space for artists;
- a space for art related events eg. networking nights, launches etc.
- programmed pop-up shops, galleries, shows etc.

THE BACKSTORY… (written by Pauline Vetuna)
Colour Box Studio Director, craftster, and full-time filmmaker Amie Batalibasi had a dream: to open up a space run by and for ARTISTS in Melbourne, a supportive space where makers could pursue, perform, hone, sell and display their craft. A relaxed space where artists could meet to collaborate and co-create.
Colour Box Studio is situated at 236 Nicholson St, Footscray, next to the old run down pub on the corner. You’ll notice a big black “Tattoo” sign at the front – number 236 used to be a tattoo parlour. But where some may have seen decay, Amie saw a chance to realise a dream. In July, she acquired the keys to that former tattoo parlour. Thus began an extraordinary and semi-intentional exercise in urban regeneration.
As the newest Artist Run Space in Melbourne, Colour Box Studio will distinguish itself by its primary goal: to support and promote other independent artists in Melbourne.
Colour Box Studio is pure potential…. And it’s just getting started.
